A Prayer for the Lost

I wrote this for my church as we began to pray for the Muslim world during Ramadan.  It is not, of course, exclusive to that one group of people.  Lord, save us all.

We thank You Lord for hearing us,

God over the seas, higher than the stars.

Though we are lowly, You listen to our pleas.

Though we rebel, still You attend us.

Today our hearts are broken,

for though we suffer and travail,

a greater dark surrounds us

and casts down our eyes.

The world is dying and in darkness,

toiling without hope, yearning, unknowingly, for You.

As many of us that have been given Your grace

still more walk the world without it.

Heal them and turn their hearts to You.

Do not let them die alone and afraid.

Turn Your light to the darkened world,

and send messengers, even us,

with Your good news.

We praise You for Your grace, given to all

Help us turn to You, on their behalf.

We stand now, sick but healed, broken but whole

and ask the same for those lost without Grace.
